Superman, Forts, & Big Rivers

Last Saturday was suppose to be the boys' first T-ball game. Unfortunately, it was rained out. But fortunately, that left us with a rare weekend day with Daddy. So we took a day trip two hours south to Metropolis Illinois, home of Superman.

The boys were so excited to see Superman's "house."  The museum is pretty nice. It cost us $5.00 a person for the adults and the kids were free. There was a lot of memorabilia from the early Superman movies.

The big statue was a hit with all of us.

If you are interested in visiting the museum or want to read up on some Superman history check out the Super Museum website. We had tons of fun, I'm sure you would too!

Also located in Metropolis is Fort Massac. Unfortunately, the fort itself was closed due to structural damage. But we were able to see the outside of it and the original site and the statue of George Rogers Clark. We also saw the Ohio River. Landon could not believe that there was a river like the Mississippi, but wasn't the Mississippi. He was amazed.

Not the Mississippi! It is the Ohio!

If you want to read up on the history of Fort Massac, which I reccommend, because it is interesting, check out Illinois State Park's website. We will be going back when the fort is open to explore the buildings.

  1. That's cool! My son would love that. We live in DC so that would have to be apart of summer vacay.
